5 mistakes to avoid when you buy a saddle

1. Never buy before you try – Most of the bike retailers can offer a demo saddle to customers these days. Take the opportunity and try out the saddle that you have your eyes on.

2. Never assume you need XY saddle – A saddle that’s used by pro riders can often be tempting. They are light and eye catchy pieces but don’t forget: it can be comfortable for them but that doesn’t mean it will be the same for you.

3. Never ignore if it feels uncomfortable – This is related to the previously mentioned testing. If a saddle feels uncomfortable it’s a bad sign and you should never ignore signs like this.

4. Never assume that soft is comfortable – Saddles with very soft surface are usually designed for a certain purpose. If this purpose doesn’t match your requirements than you should keep looking. A little bit more firm saddle can often be a better choice.

5. Never rush into a decision – You should never be in a hurry when you choose a new saddle, especially when you choose one that’s from a manufacturer you’re unfamiliar with. Always give yourself time and be sure you make the right decision. A new saddle will serve you for years, this is why you should pick the perfect one for yourself.
