Bike setup for tall riders

Choosing a bike is not an easy task, especially if your above avarage height. Here are some tips to help you with it.

1 Frame fit

Weight distribution is everything when you are a tall rider. Having an even bias to the front and rear wheel means that you are in more control of the bike and it feels more comfortable. The goal is to keep your weight centered.
Longer back-end bikes are a great fit generally speaking.

2 Wheel size

28 or 29 inch wheels are a great fit as well. Not only it rolls over obstacles more easily, but the bottom bracket often sits lower than the wheel axles to be proportional to the rest of the bike.
It makes you less top heavy and improves handling.

3 Pedals and cranks

Of course it depends on what you prefer, but generally longer crankarms and bigger platformed pedals are a comfortable and reasonable choice.

4 Cockpit

Don’t be afraid of going high with the front end. In the long term your body will appreciate it.
Also try rise bars and thicker handlebar grips for greater comfort.

5 Riding Kit

Try to keep every bag and equipment attached to the frame or on the rack. It helps you on adventures reducing stress on your upper body and keeping weight close to the ground.
